about

"Old men sow the seeds of revolution once again." Hmmm... Not sure what I meant by that, other than the fact that elder intellectuals unwilling to put their asses on the line typically spearhead violent political change. Meanwhile, easily coerced, young firebrands--or traumatized, suicidal cases--take up arms and get themselves killed in anonymity, or else get themselves used as martyr recruitment ads, poster children of violence. Usually, they're poor.
That makes me sound like an activist. Frankly, I sit on my ass and do nothing about anything. For example, this morning I watched the Norwegian and Romanian women's handball teams go head-to-head in the Beijing Summer Olympics. It was on the USA network; it wasn't live. I was lying on my back in bed in a hotel room in Hood River, Oregon. I flipped between that and CNN, listening to Zbigniew Brzezinski (the venerable pundit who must be as old as Methuselah) mutter about the Georgian-Russian stand-off, and watching leaders of break-away republics join hands in solidarity with the Georgian president. Handball, Georgia, handball, Georgia, handball, Georgia, handball, Georgia...

lyrics

It's much too late
Put him to bed
I'll break his neck

Come on, come on...

Who stands in the way
of all the trouble you have caused?

Old men sow the seeds of revolution once again

You know so much.
You know so much.
You know so much.
