Hookworm

about

This is another of my sanguine paeons to romantic love, comparing relationships to parasitic intestinal worm infestations. The weird squawling at the end of the tune is ex-guitarist Joe Ostrowski's pitbull Jack. He (the dog) had some serious separation anxiety, and would make this god-awful I'm-being-tortured noise whenever he was alone; naturally, we had to record it and include it on the album. At one point during the recording, Joe left his brand new work boots outside, and Jack chewed them to shreds, because pitbulls love to chew. Joe became rather upset. I don't know why we have phased this out of our live sets; it's pretty fun to play. You don't know how excited I was to find out that "ancylostomiasistic" fit the phrasing of this song. You don't.

lyrics

I am vermiform,
I am so pasty white,
On my face are platehooks,
I just want to share.

Once I dig right in,
It's hard to get me out,
You often have to cut me,
Cut me from myself.

If I make it through you,
If I get in to this
Ancylostomiasistic love affair
If I make it through you...
