Everybody Out

about

This song is pretty bone simple and derivative (not a bad thing necessarily), but we play it a lot live to this day. Kelly is the song's most insistent champion in terms of keeping it in the set. I remember writing this with Kelly at my ex-girlfriend's mother's house, of all places. My ex-girlfriend's mother considers me part of her family, even post-break-up, and there was a period of time when I used her house as a kind of song-and-fiction-writing studio in the early-to-mid-'90s. I think, by now, she has convinced herself that she gave birth to me. She worked all day as a therapist, so the house was empty. I remember visiting her office one day and seeing a sand box full of toys; apparently a variety of therapy called "sand play." I now keep a sand box in my living room, and damn if it doesn't work wonders on my disposition.

lyrics

If it breaks down, guess it's my fault
Lock me inside, turn out the lights
I feel so lost left with the crowd
You've got some nerve throwing me out

The closer I get the smaller you seem
You don't have shit if you lose me
I can't back down if you pull that
Don't you walk away, don't you walk away

If it's not right, if there's no time
get them out fast, I want them alive
You can't go back if I break down
Don't you walk away, don't you walk away

Sort it out quick, you can't take both
As much as you hold, much as you hold
Forty-odd dead, looks like we're next
Everybody out

If it don't stop...
